North Iceland

North Iceland offers a more rugged and less crowded alternative to the south, with equally impressive natural attractions. The region is anchored by Akureyri, Iceland's charming "Capital of the North," and features some of the country's most diverse landscapes.

The Diamond Circle route showcases the north's greatest hits: the thundering Dettifoss waterfall (Europe's most powerful), the otherworldly Mývatn lake area with its bubbling mud pools and volcanic craters, and the magnificent Ásbyrgi canyon shaped like a horseshoe.

Húsavík, known as Iceland's whale watching capital, offers exceptional opportunities to see humpback whales, minke whales, and if you're lucky, blue whales. The region's geothermal activity provides natural hot springs and the famous Mývatn Nature Baths.
